Owen Sound poet Lyn Carlson recently published her second volume of poetry, “I had MORE in mind…”, a variety of (mostly) rhythmic Poetry with local interest - Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, Salmon Spectacular - thoughts on life and loss, and some humour and wordplay mixed in.
Lyn always enjoyed writing poetry, finding it an instinctive means to express thoughts and feelings, as well as to pay tribute to special people and occasions. Her first publication, “I had in mind…” is packed with over 50 poems, while Volume 2 “I had MORE in mind…” reprises some of the favourites, while publishing new poems to mark this auspicious year. One entitled “2020” was written in January prior to COVID-19 changing our world.
When she was just a toddler, Lyn's family moved from Calgary to a property near Wiarton, returning to her mother’s roots on the Bruce Peninsula. She attended Wiarton Public School and Wiarton District High School and then moved to Toronto and began working downtown at the head office of an international insurance company.
After years away working in Toronto and then the Niagara region, she returned to this area and has resided in Owen Sound for over 20 years, with her husband Robert. (She notes that anything negative about relationship you may detect in her poetry is about the EX-husband!)
A “do-it-yourself” kind of person, Lyn used her design and desktop publishing skills to produce both her books. Having always felt it was important to support local businesses, and especially during these challenging times, she had the printing done by Austin Graphics. Her first book “I had in Mind...” (2016), and the new Volume 2 “I had MORE in Mind...” are both available at Owen Sound shops: All Things T, Phoenix Books and Coles.
