The Roxy Owen Sound Little Theatre today announced the launch of a new Roxy Youth Program. The youth program will consist of three pillars; Theatre Education, Theatre Camps and The Roxy Young Company.
The program will be run by the Roxy Youth Program Coordinator Lacey Mooney. Lacey is a long time OSLT member having first joined when she was 11 years old. She has gone on to perform in over 18 OSLT productions, and has also worked backstage countless times. She has directed three youth productions with past companies as well as camps and electives. She is so excited to be working with youth in the area to bring them some amazing theatre experiences.
“We wanted to give kids a chance to experience the theatre” says Lacey. “It’s a place to build friendships and community.”
The Theatre Education program begins with a series of Theatre Workshops taught by local experts and open to youth ages 8-18. Workshops happen once per month on Saturdays from 9am-11am starting January 16th 2021. Topics include Script Writing, Acting, Prop Making, Movement, Set Design and Lighting Design. Workshops cost $50 but can be purchased as a bundle for $240.
The Roxy Young Company is a dedicated theatre troupe intended to give youth ages 10-18 an opportunity to develop theatre skills, gain a sense of belonging, and produce a live show on the Roxy stage. Youth participating will work hard learning theatre skills, having fun, gaining confidence and being creative. The company runs from January to May 2021, culminating in a show on the Roxy stage. Registration fees are $450/participant.
The youth programs will take place in the Roxy Theatre but the team has plans to move to virtual programming if COVID restrictions tighten. Registrations for the Education programming and Roxy Young Company will open on December 18th, 2020.
