TedBarris
Esteemed historian and writer Ted Barris has published nineteen books of non-fiction, half of them wartime histories. His most recent book, Battle of the Atlantic: Gauntlet to Victory (Harper Collins, 2022) tells the story of Canada’s naval awakening from the dark, bloody winters of 1939–1942, to be “ready, aye, ready” to challenge the U-boats and drive them to defeat. It’s a Canadian wartime saga for the ages. While Canadians think of the Great War battle of Vimy Ridge as the country’s coming of age, it was the Battle of the Atlantic that proved Canada’s gauntlet to victory and a nation-building milestone.

TedBarris02Ted Barris will talk about this latest book TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2022, 7:00 P.M. at the Bayshore Community Centre, Owen Sound. Tickets, $20. per person, may be purchased at The Bayshore, The Ginger Press, Grey Gallery and at the door.

Barris’s style will appeal to the lay-person and experienced historian alike. Focusing on the telling of events through the perspectives of those who lived and died through them, makes for an engaging and personal reading experience. Contrasting Canadian perspectives, across the services, including the contributions of women, with those of their German counterparts, Barris establishes a thorough picture of the battle.

Always a popular speaker and a favourite with Owen Sound audiences, Ted Barris is presenting this talk as a fundraiser for CFUW – Owen Sound & Area [www.cfuwowensound.com] community outreach and education projects.

Thanks to The Ginger Press Book Shop copies of the book will be available to purchase at The Bayshore on Oct 4th (cash/debit/credit) and have personally autographed by the author.
