Good news: Peggy Nash, who served two terms as a Member of Parliament from Toronto after an impressive career as a labour leader is coming to Owen Sound to talk about the challenges faced by women in politics.

Peggy has written a well-received book, Women Winning Office: An Activist's Guide to Getting Elected, which will inform her presentation on  Wednesday, July 27 at 7:00 pm at the Harmony Centre, Owen Sound.

Women Winning Office, for sale on the 27th, has been welcomed my many commentators as "a highly accessible comment on women’s leadership, power, and social change in a society fraught with inequalities … a tremendous resource that all women with an interest in politics should check out … this book is for you."

Peggy’s speech kicks off the efforts of Rebound Owen Sound, our renamed community engagement organization that is seeking and supporting creative, energetic candidates for the October 24 election.

If you have felt frustration at the inability of our current City Council to come to grips with the climate crisis, a growing housing crisis, highly visible poverty and addictions, and a deteriorating downtown core, then come out to hear Peggy Nash speak - and join us in seeking candidates for Council who will be agents of change. We’re in this together!

Michael Craig, Owen Sound
