Pumping massive amounts of stimulus into our economy has the stated goal of getting things back to the way they were pre-pandemic. The problem then was that fewer and fewer people were needed by the system to produce more and more goods and services. That is not the fault of those who weren’t needed.

If you give money to a small business so that they can pay their rent so that the landlord can pay their mortgage so that the bank can continue paying the same dividend how is that helping people who are struggling to survive?

Let’s compare that to providing a basic income that would provide the basic needs that everyone has, food, shelter, clothing, etc. That money would be sure to be spent. That money spent would then be spent again and again (the multiplier effect). Finally some rich person would receive the money and either not spend it again or perhaps go on a world cruise.

A basic income would provide the stimulus required by the economy as well as provide for the basic needs of all its citizens. More importantly all people would be able to make a plan for moving forward with their lives and not having to constantly scramble just to survive.
