Are you a senior isolated and feeling disconnected to the outside world during the Covid – 19 pandemic? The United Way Bruce Grey and partners are proud to introduce the Seniors’ Centre Without Walls (SCWW). This telephone conferencing program offers an inclusive, safe, inviting space to listen, learn and be heard. It can also increase social connectedness and well-being of participants. The SCWW will provide a way for a diverse community of people who connect by telephone for free group activities, informative, interactive presentations and is geared towards Seniors 55 + and adults 18 + that identify as living with a disability.
Examples of discussion topics include:
· Financial, emotional and social safety information
· Activities and speakers that will provide information and promote safety, good health practices and well-being;
· Mental health
· Fraud prevention
· Financial empowerment
· Direct supports available in relation to COVID-19
Sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 1:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.; Phone in is toll free.
For month of May, on Mondays, there are a variety of trivia events planned as well as seated fitness with Carolyn Shannon.
The first Tuesday will be the fourth and final part for the series on memory and aging.
Wednesdays will offer four different information sessions/guest speakers; these range from Marilyn Rivers a councillor to Karen Baxter, United Way Bruce Greys Utilities Program Coordinator.
Fridays are for four guest speakers; such as Caroline Araujo Abbotts, United Way Bruce Greys Financial Literacy Program Coordinator and seated fitness with Carolyn Shannon.
Guest speaker information;
Marilyn Rivers is a councillor with many years of experience counselling people to make good decisions in their lives as they overcome challenges in their lives.
Nancy Forgraves, from Bruce Peninsula Hospice, will be sharing tips on how to stay positive during this pandemic.
Carrie Stevenson, from Women’s Centre of Owen Sound, will have a power point to inform us about the need of women and children to have a safe haven in our community.
Caroline Araujo Abbots, from United Way Bruce Grey, will discuss Financial Literacy.
Lee Royer is a certified coach for meditation.
Karen Baxter, from United Way Bruce Grey, will discuss utility programs and rebates that are available.
