Bruce County Public Library celebrates a significant milestone with the Tobermory Friends of the Library on Thursday, Apr. 25.

The group, consisting of community volunteers, will turn 25, and everyone is invited to help celebrate their silver anniversary.

Friends of the Library groups are non-profit organizations that work independently of the libraries they support. Friends’ groups have been traced back to 1922 and are an invaluable help to the libraries and communities they work with.

Their purposes are to promote and publicize library services, fundraise, raise awareness and advocate when requested by the library and library board.

Since its conception in 1998, the Tobermory Friends have been supported by original charter members Cecile Eadie and Kathleen Hollis. They received the much-deserved 2016 Gabriele Schreiber Friends of the Year award.

Raising $30,000 they have contributed to lawn benches, a bike stand, circulation desk, cabinets, shelving, a pull-down screen, and financing specialized programs.

These gifts have had a substantial impact on library services for the community, and the Library appreciates their ongoing efforts.

This celebration is being held at the Tobermory branch, located at 22 Bay Street, and will kick off at 11:00 a.m., with remarks at 11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served during the event, ending at 1:00 p.m.
