On Saturday, Jun. 17, the Roselawn Lawn Bowling Club will host Bowling On Grass, the world’s first Cannabis-friendly lawn bowling tournament.

Up to 16 teams made up mainly of beginner and novice players will come together to celebrate their community while enjoying some cannabis, some camaraderie and a little friendly competition.

The day begins at 10:00 a.m. with instruction for beginners from members of the club. Three six end draws will follow with food, fun and 420 breaks provided throughout the day.

Prizes will be awarded during our wrap-up celebration at the end of the third draw with the day ending around 6:00 p.m.

Although the consumption of cannabis is not a prerequisite to play in the tournament, there will be space provided nearby for the smokers and vapers. Edibles and drinks are welcome as are any other beverages you’d like to bring.

This is a 19+ event.

Cost for the event is $240 per team or $60 per person. Singles are welcome. We will place you on a team.

The tournament is inspired by a few things:

• As a warmer version of the very successful and highly enjoyable Wiarton Bongspiel.
  
  
• To lessen the stigmas that both cannabis and lawn bowling continue to face, despite legalization (of cannabis, at least). One of the main goals of the event is for people who have experienced lawn bowling to share the game with those who haven’t and for people who have experience with cannabis to share with those who don’t.
  
  
• To celebrate our local community. Food and prizes will all be local.
  
  
• To embrace the culture of Cannabis that seems to have faded a little. As paradoxical as it may seem, the legalization of cannabis has changed cannabis culture. At least the Cannabis culture that I enjoy. Which incudes getting together with others (who both partake and don’t) and playing games, thinking about and discussing ideas, and going for hikes to name just a few. I am very fortunate to have a group of friends who enjoy the same experiences that I do. My community is very healthy for me. I’d like this culture of connection to spread.
