So last night I joined some of the authors of Things That Used To Matter at the Ginger Press for some lovely conversations and delicious food, as is the wont at potlucks.

Thank you for hosting the soirée, Maryann Thomas, and for publishing the book and allowing so many diverse stories to see the light of day.

After the meal we relocated to the auditorium of our wonderful Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library to hear some of the 32 authors relate background or read from the book themselves.

Sometimes poignant, hilarious, troubling – and quietly thoughtful – we finally heard the stories in the authors' own voices.

We are so fortunate that Joan Beecroft felt that such stories from our community would resonate and intrigue contributors and thus this remarkable collection was created.

Incidentally, on Monday Joan was awarded the Senior Volunteer of the Year Award at City Hall. Well-deserved indeed.

If you value and would like to support independent book publishers and local writers, I believe there are still some copies available at the Ginger Press Bookshop and Cafe.
