The Neyaashiinigmiing Police Service recently hosted a one-week leadership camp in partnership with their Native Child Welfare Program.

From June 5 through 9 the Neyaashiinigmiing First Nation Police in partnership with Neyaashiinigmiing's Native Child Welfare took fifteen Kikendaasogamig Elementary School Grade 7/8 youth, along with two Grade 9 mentors, on a one-week leadership camp at Muskoka Woods.

The youth participated in activities such as team building games, low ropes, high ropes, giant swing, water slides (Kraken), NASCAR, and archery tag.

Afterwards, there were team building discussions on communication, goal setting, roles and responsibilities, and how everyone is a leader in their own way.

What the youth said they learned about leadership:

"It's ok to make mistakes ... "

"Communication is very important ... "

"To be myself ... "

"To respect people and be more confident ... "

"I should take more opportunities ... "

"Put effort into everything you're doing ... "

"You don't need to be given the title of a leader to be a leader ... "
