Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre is pleased to present a free Speaker series this fall and winter, Funded by the New Horizons for Seniors (federal) program. Coming Nov 23 at 1pm is a fascinating talk facilitated by Robert Burcher regarding the connections between John Muir and Louis Riel.
Muir and Riel - two famous Victorian gentlemen both had connections to Meaford, Ontario though went on  to lead very different lives. One was hung for treason and the other became the founding saint of the North American environmental movement. Find out how their lives merged through this engaging talk.
Robert Burcher, local historian and Meaford Museum volunteer, talks about the lives of Louis Riel and John Muir, who both lived at the same time in the mid 1800's and artifacts from that time that have ended up in the museum. Burcher has uncovered some new information about the unknown route Muir travelled to get to Meaford and some new understandings of what created the Riel Rebellion and Ontario's role in the event.
