The Women’s Centre Grey Bruce (TWC) recently launched a new Adopt-A-Room campaign  designed to get community members involved in creating a safer place for women, children, and youth.

This year, we are renovating a new Youth House to support our Anti-Human Trafficking Program for Youth (AHT). AHT helps youth who are at-risk of, or have previously been human trafficked, get the help from compassionate professionals to begin their healing journeys and learn the life skills required to build a safe and sustainable future free from violence and abuse. Human-trafficking is under-reported but is recognized as one of the fastest-growing crimes worldwide, and Grey Bruce is not immune. TWC’s AHT Youth House is a safe haven for youth who have been, and are at-risk of finding themselves in those dangerous situations.

The new Youth House will house eight youth as they begin their healing journeys, grow, and live as youth are meant to. Our previous location wasn't ideal for these outcomes, and we’re looking forward to creating a safe space with the help of our community.

To achieve this, AHT’s new Youth House must undergo extensive renovations. Our renovations have started and will continue through to the Fall of 2023, in hopes we will have the space complete and all eight youth moved in by Winter 2023/24. We are looking to the generous Grey Bruce community for help in reaching our fundraising goal of $150,000 to complete the renovations!

We have multiple tiers for donors, as well as a house furniture registry so that everyone in the community can contribute regardless of their financial situation. Donations can be made here or by contacting donations@thewomenscentre.org! For more information and to see what we offer our donors in recognition of their support, visit our website here.

Human trafficking is a pressing issue that TWC is dedicated to fighting, and AHT’s new Youth House is a cause near and dear to many proud Grey Bruce community members. Youth are an integral part of our community and we are committed to creating a safe space where they can grow and develop, free from violence and abuse.
