bruce-fullTIVERTON – The return of summer bus tours to the Bruce Power site has been a huge success, the nuclear operator says.

Due to high demand and limited seating on the buses, Bruce Power said in a news release, it is adding two more tours per week for the month of August. Tours will be available at 1 and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays next month.

"Being the world's largest operating nuclear site and the area's largest employer means there is a lot of public curiosity about Bruce Power," said James Scongack, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, in a news release. "The public interest in the tours has exceeded our expectations, and we're happy to educate even more people about our site this summer."

The one-hour tours, which leave from the Visitors' Centre on Bruce Rd. 20 (Conc. 4), include a view of Douglas Point, Canada's first commercial-sized nuclear plant, a drive past the multi-unit Bruce A and Bruce B nuclear stations, which generate about a third of Ontario's electricity, and a number of extensive security elements that protect both stations.

Bruce Power recommends you pre-register for a tour by calling the Visitors' Centre at 519-361-7777 or emailing info@brucepower.com, though walk-ons are welcome if space is available. You must bring official, government-issued photo identification, for example a driver's license or passport, to ensure security clearance before boarding the bus. Children without photo identification can be verified by parent or guardian.

About Bruce Power

Bruce Power operates the world's largest operating nuclear generating facility and is the source of roughly 25 per cent of Ontario's electricity. The company's site in Tiverton, Ontario is home to eight CANDU reactors, each one capable of generating enough low-cost, reliable, safe and clean electricity to meet the annual needs of a city the size of Hamilton. Formed in 2001, Bruce Power is an all-Canadian partnership among TransCanada, Borealis Infrastructure Management (a division of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System) as well as the Power Workers' Union and Society of Energy Professionals. A majority of Bruce Power's employees are also owners in the business.
