The federal government has invited MPs, individuals or groups to organize town hall meetings on Electoral Reform, an issue fundamental to every Canadian qualified to vote now or in the future.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound Federal Liberals are organizing a Town Hall meeting on Wednesday October 26th at 7 p.m. at the Harmony Centre 890 4th Avenue East, Owen Sound to discuss Electoral Reform.
On June 7th of this year, the House created a Special Committee to identify and conduct a study of viable alternative voting systems to replace the first-past-the-post system as well as to examine mandatory voting and on line voting. There were five principles set out in the motion creating this committee: effectiveness and legitimacy, engagement, accessibility and inclusion, integrity and local representation.
BGOS Federal Liberals are hosting this non-partisan town hall to inform local voters about the various types of electoral systems and to provide an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the various options.
A summary of the evening will be submitted to the government, but individuals are encouraged to make their own submissions. More information is posted on the government website, www. canada.ca/electoral-reform-dialogue
