During the afternoon hours of Tuesday January 4, 2022 an Owen Sound resident parked his truck and entered a westside business having left the vehicle unlocked with the keys inside. Despite only being inside the business for a short period of time, the truck was stolen and driven away from the area.
At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday January 5, 2022 an Owen Sound Police Officer observed the stolen truck parked in the area of 28th Avenue East and Highway #26. The officer approached the truck and arrested a 27- year-old man who was seated in the driver’s seat.
The man was transported to the Owen Sound Police Station where he was charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 as well as numerous counts of Breach of Probation. The accused remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
The truck was later returned to the registered owner.
Police would like to remind citizens to secure their vehicles when left unattended and to avoid leaving keys accessible to opportunistic thieves.
