The Roxy Theatre is excited to announce its latest program: The Roxy Star Company. This program will be a new opportunity for adults living with complex needs including intellectual, developmental or physical disabilities, allowing them to participate and perform in theatre arts. Participants will play drama games, and learn acting skills, dances, and songs.
The program will focus on each participant's individual strengths and will culminate in a talent show where participants will get to show off what they’ve learned on The Roxy stage. The Roxy Star Company will create an environment where theatre is inclusive and for everyBODY. The program will be open to anyone who identifies as an adult living with complex needs including intellectual, developmental or physical disabilities.
The program, run by Lacey Mooney, who successfully launched growing The Roxy Young Company in 2021, will run March 9 - June 22 with rehearsals taking place at Georgian Shores United Church on Thursdays from 4pm-5:30pm. The culminating talent show will have a public performance at The Roxy Theatre on June 29th.
“Our hope is to show that everyone deserves the chance to create performance art. We are one of the only community theatres to start a program like this, and I hope it inspires us all to be more inclusive and accepting. It’s a chance to let an amazing group of people inspire us all to be better and do better.” said Lacey Mooney, Star Company Coordinator.
