miller-header-fullLarry Miller, Member of Parliament for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, is inviting all interested individuals and organizations to submit feedback for the Government of Canada's recently launched public consultation on Canada's defence policy.

While the review is wide-sweeping and may focus on a number of different issues relating to Canada's defence policy, there are three topics that form the core scope of the review: 1) the global security environment; 2) the Canadian approach to defence; and 3) defence capabilities and the future force.

Specific questions included in these three core topics include:

1. Security Environment:

a. Are there any threats to Canada's security that are not being addressed adequately?

b. Are there particular regions or issues that you are most concerned with?

2. Canadian Approach to Defence:

a. What role should the Canadian Armed Forces play domestically, including in support of civilian authorities?

b. How should Canada-United States cooperation on defence of North American evolve in the coming years?

c. What form should the Canadian Armed Forces contribution to peace support operations take?

3. Defence Capabilities and the Future Force:

a. Should the size, structure, and composition of the Canadian Armed Forces change from what they are today?

b. How can the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces improve the way they support the health and wellness of military members?

c. Should Canada strive to maintain military capability across the full spectrum of operations?

d. What type of investments should Canada make in space, cyber, and unmanned systems?

e. What resources will the Canadian Armed Forces require to meet Canada's defence needs?

"I strongly encourage all interested individuals and organizations to participate in this important review of Canada's defence policy," said Miller. "I look forward to an open conversation about the global security environment and Canada's role and capabilities when it comes to national and global security."

Submissions may be sent directly to the Office of Larry Miller by e-mailing larry.miller.a2@parl.gc.ca.

Furthermore, submission may also be made directly on the Government of Canada online consultation portal at: www.canada.ca/defence-consultations.

The deadline to submit feedback is July 31st, 2016.
